Portfolio Statement

Zan Dani
Fine Art

The work I produce is mostly inspired by Expressionist and Cubist artists like "Edvard Munch" and "Picasso" who use different techniques when painting. Expressionism encourages me to be creative in the media’s I use and to find different ways of composing a piece. I also involve realism in many of my project as it provides a different challenge where I have to pay a lot of attention to small details from the beginning . The artists that inspire me are "The Dutch Masters" such as Vemeer as they expressed ordinary people in mundane scenes. I practice drawing on my sketchbook for first hand research, drawing from life is something I do in my spare time in public places but I also have a pocket size sketchbook for when I'm on the go. Drawing people is a passion of mine so life drawing in class was a very different experience and I was very excited to see what my outcomes could be.

I enjoy photography as I can use it as an art form as well as a useful tool to produce art with. Studio photography can be challenging because as the artist I have to make sure that I make everyone feels comfortable. I have so many ideas at the start of new project I find it challenging to focus, the best way around this for me is to make different pieces to stimulate my mind.
